For more than 35 years, the city and then the Port of Kennewick have struggled to keep a fixed-base operator on Vista Field. Dr. Shannon's recent proposal to use taxpayers' money to shore up his operation is just the latest example. During the last election, city councilors and port commissioners were elected saying they were willing to give the promised aviation-based investments a chance to materialize. They haven't. Time to let it go. It's in the wrong place. It's sucking up money that the port could use to generate economic growth and jobs.
It's keeping valuable land from realizing its best potential.
