I'm writing to talk about the Every 15 Minutes program the seniors at Richland High School participated in. I believe the effects this two-day program had on us as seniors were amazing. We all had an idea that it'd be sad and shocking to find out the real truth of drinking and driving but it turned out it was much more than that.
Having to watch your classmates and best friends go through that process of "dying," getting taken away on a stretcher and coming back dead in their black robes and black makeup was a hard thing to sit through, even when you weren't acquainted with those people.
We also had a guest speaker at RHS -- the mother of Sami Semmern. Hearing everything that she went through, losing her daughter, was heartbreaking. All because someone made that stupid decision to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
After going through the program, tons of tears were shed and tons of eyes were opened to the real and true heartbreaking effects of drinking and driving. It made all of us realize how stupid and dangerous drunken driving is.
So on behalf of the seniors here at Richland High School, please choose to save a life, yours or someone else's, and don't choose to drink and drive.
