We would like to publicly thank Sen. Mark Schoesler for meeting with our select group of students from Chiawana High School.
As young, responsible citizens of this state and country, it is vital that we become involved in the affairs that will affect our future. ESHB 2311 would have had catastrophic effects on our school had it been passed in its previous form.
Our school would have lost tens of thousands of dollars in revenue, severely impacting our athletics, clubs and music programs. Similar impacts would be felt by schools like our around the state.
On recognizing this, we decided it was our civic duty to take action.
After assembling a select group of students, we traveled to Olympia on Feb. 19.
Here, we divided and conquered. A portion of our group met with Schoesler for a scheduled appointment, while the rest of us wandered around the Senate offices in the legislative building, pleading our case with anyone who would listen.
Our trip was quite successful, and, we believe, effective.
We thank Sen. Schoesler for meeting with us, for hearing our concerns, and for his hospitality.
