Japan has given parents the right to choose which school their children go to. They can go to public school for free or go to private school and the government will pay a portion of the tuition. Japan’s test scores are among the highest in the world because they have opened up their school system up to competition.
Why wouldn’t we want this for our kids? Here in Washington, our schools receive $16,000 dollars per student per year. If we had a voucher system, it might look like this: $1,000 per student private school, $16,000 public school, $1,000 homeschool. Every time a parent chose private school or homeschool, the taxpayers would save money, and our kids would get a better education. Children from poorer families could go to private school where otherwise they would not be able to afford.
Give every child school choice. Parents know what is best for their own individual child. Homeschool and private school parents, speak out. Let Congress hear your voice over the teachers unions. We are thousands. We have a voice. Families who want to give your children a better education speak out.
