Please be advised to pay property taxes on time, even if they are not sent to your address.
In 2013, I moved from Creekstone to Cherry Blossom Meadows and paid my taxes that year. Same for 2014, 2015 and 2016; all were paid within two days. The billing was sent to my correct address by the treasurer those years.
In 2017 I never received a bill, which is sent out in February. I kept waiting and finally went down to the treasurer's office on Oct. 24 because I knew the total bill was due at the end of October. They told me they had sent me a bill for the year but had sent it to my old address because of a computer glitch. I absolutely had no recourse but to pay them, which I did plus the penalty of $209.84.
I am concerned for the other citizens of Benton County that this never happens to them. I also called the Prosser main office and was told there had been a computer glitch and this happened to others, but there was nothing that could be done.
Never miss a local story.
