I attended the 9/11 memorial tonight and I’d like to say thanks to Kennewick Fire Department and Benton County Fire District 1. Their showing was respectful and honorable.
It’s too bad the rest of the city and the police department didn’t participate. It makes them look bad, particularly since the fire guys have been chasing smoke all summer. Many other cities across the state had 9/11 ceremonies and they didn’t even have a piece of Ground Zero — that’s appalling.
How can we ask people to “never forget” when our own city doesn’t support the memorial? Many other cities would love to have a piece of Ground Zero to memorialize. I don’t know the reasons for the city or the PD’s absence, but when we pass a law and justice sales tax to fund them and they can’t show up to the 9/11 memorial, it looks bad. They should be embarrassed.
Take a look at what an amazing job Pasco did supporting the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and the recent memorial for Sergeant Dieter Schmeiman.
This should never happen again in Kennewick.
