In a few days, voters all across the state will start marking their ballots in the most important state election in 20 years. We must choose legislators able to handle several thorny problems, each with big budget price tags.
Per our Supreme Court’s orders, legislators must finally do their paramount duty to fully fund functional local schools. They must make companion investments in higher ed to increase student opportunity and cut student debt. They will face some key decisions about our energy future. And, by court order, they must improve our mental health systems.
I know from personal experience that we can trust Larry Haler to help steer our state through those decisions. For several years Larry and I shared the leadership of the powerful House Higher Ed committee. I trust his judgment and respect the way he guards Tri-City interests. This is not a time for hyper-partisan legislators. Our state needs Larry Haler at work in Olympia.
