I am a Boy Scout from Troop 179 in Kennewick. Over the past year, the media has been consistently showing police officers in a negative light and sensationalizing quick decisions they needed to make in their line of duty.
I believe, that as a community and a nation, we should be doing our best to support the people who are protecting us. Instead of degrading police officers, I think we should focus on and report more on the good they do (e.g., protect us from harm, help stranded motorists, comfort children when an accident has occurred, etc.) for us. The media needs to use its position to assist our country with building a positive relationship with our officers and assist us with showing our support for these public heroes.
In conclusion, we need to be grateful for the sacrifices that police officers make every day. We need to show them increased respect and have the media sensationalize the good that they do.
