Tri-Citians are lucky when it comes to the timing of the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo.
Many communities hold their fairs much later, when summer feels like it's over and kids are already back in school.
Our fair gives families one last, exciting way to spend time together before fall schedules take over their lives.
And the fair isn't just a great bonding opportunity for families. It also brings the community together, offering local talent a chance to perform and kids a chance to show off their animals.
It gives people who have toiled in the garden a way to share their flowers, fruits and vegetables. Those who have spent the year sewing a quilt or painting a picture have a way to present their work to hundreds of viewers.
No other Tri-City event binds the community quite like the fair.
Everything gets started at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Grand Parade in downtown Kennewick. Construction on Dayton Street has altered the parade route this year, but it is still in the general area as before. The Demolition Derby is at 6:30 p.m. Monday and then the fair runs Tuesday through Saturday.
The fair is a fun, bustling, energizing event that brings families and the community together. Be a part of it and plan on attending. It's a great way to mark the end of summer.
