How many good neighbors does it take to make up for a pack of morons?
We're hoping the answer is greater than one.
After reading about the rash of vandalism at an unofficial shooting range south of Kennewick, Chuck Mitchell decided to take action.
The 71-year-old Pasco man has been spending about three or four hours a day, carting away trash left on vacant land on Owens Road.
Never miss a local story.
Several sites in the area have long been used as illegal dumping grounds and makeshift shooting ranges. Target practice is permitted on rural property that isn't posted, but that's not a license for morons to leave their debris behind.
By the end of last week, Mitchell had one of the worst areas about half cleaned and was making progress on another.
But he told Herald reporter John Trumbo that he could use help hauling off some of the larger furnishings that vandals have abandoned.
Mitchell is trying to schedule a work day and attract some volunteers with strong backs. A few extra trucks would be nice, too.
Mitchell said he will keep at it -- alone if he has to -- until the job is complete.
We're hoping he will have company. It sounds like a perfect opportunity for reformed morons to restore their karmic balance.
