The Badger Mountain Challenge draws competitors from around the world who run 100 miles along the ridges between Richland and Prosser and back. The wine industry at the base of Red Mountain, Candy Mountain and Badger Mountain is attracting connoisseurs from Seattle who climb the ridges above and drop down to the wineries. These visitors stay in Benton County hotels and dine in Benton County restaurants. Benton County businesses are finding that skilled potential employees are attracted to the hiking and biking opportunities available on public land in the area.
Most of the ridges in the county are cheap, lovely and undeveloped. They won’t be forever unless Conservation Futures Proposition 14-7 is passed. We have a treasure in our midst. An investment of one dollar per month for the average household will keep it that way.
