It’s no secret some politicians make better targets for wise cracks than others. And Lieutenant Gov. Brad Owen, ever the stickler for decorum and seriousness, is pretty slippery in that regard.
That’s why we can’t let him get away with these few gems dropped in a meeting with the Herald editorial board last week.
— “I don’t mean to break my arm patting myself on the back but it is a campaign,” Owen said before listing off his accomplishments.
— When asked about how the state can better improve its business climate Owen suggested it should bend a bit more to meet industry needs.
“I have no intention of running for governor,” Owen explained. “If I were I would send out a crew to get an inventory of the needs of the world.”
I’d like to see the fiscal note on that study bill.
— On describing the exhaustingly ceremonial nature of his job: “C-TED doesn’t do the hosting and the greeting and the meeting. Somebody’s got to do it when the governor can’t do it.”
It's a dirty job...
