Think next week’s primary is just a formality for Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire and Republican Dino Rossi?
How their candidate looks coming out of the primary is critical to any high profile campaign, even if there’s little doubt that they’ll advance to the general election.
Democrat Darcy Burner, for instance, last week sent out handsome, multi-page, magazine-like mailers to let people know who she is in her hotly contested race against Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert in the 8th Congressional District. It undoubtedly set her campaign back a pretty penny a full three months before the general election.
Gregoire is getting help from Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who in a new radio ad for Gregoire airing in Western Washington encourages voters to turn out for the governor in the primary.
He even goes so far as to try and reclaim the “change” mantra from Rossi by listing off Gregoire accomplishments and declaring “Now that’s change we can all believe in.”
I’ve posted the radio ad at right.
