According to the latest reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama had outraised Republican John McCain in Washington on a six-to-one basis through June.
Obama had raised just under $7 million in the Evergreen State to McCain’s near $1.2 million. Throw in the money raised by 10 other now deposed Republican candidates (even the $133 John Cox raised) and Obama has more than doubled the GOP haul by himself.
Obama even is outraising McCain in the conservative Eastern Washington.
Among states west of the Mississippi River, only California and Texas have contributed more to this year’s presidential campaigns than Washington, though those are the only two such states with more electoral votes than Washington. Through June donors in Washington had spent $13.8 million compared to the $11.6 million raised in Arizona and $11.2 million raised in Colorado.
