Residents are voting to maintain a property tax levy for a Benton County fire district serving West Richland.
The levy was passing with 54 percent of the vote based on preliminary tallies released Tuesday night by the Benton County Auditor’s Office. The measure needs a simple majority to pass.
Residents have paid the levy rate of $1.50 per $1,000 in assessed property value since 2007, providing $1.95 million per year to the district. The owner of a $100,000 home would pay $150 a year for service.
The property tax pays for personnel, trucks, equipment and supplies.
