Sirens used for alerts at Energy Northwest’s nuclear power plant near Richland will sound April 8 as part of a test of the system.
They may be heard along the Columbia River near Hanford and the Yakima River in the Horn Rapids area.
About 10 a.m. the sirens will sound for three minutes, followed by a message over the siren public address system that sirens are being tested. The sirens will be sounded a second time and an announcement made that testing has been completed.
The testing of the siren system is done twice a year in a cooperative effort of Benton and Franklin counties and Energy Northwest.
