Kurion has opened an office in Tokyo to help with the company's growing role in the cleanup at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
It anticipates hiring administration and engineering staff shortly.
Last month Kurion acquired Vista Engineering Technologies in Richland, which is developing two remote manipulators for the inspection and repair of leaks within the primary containment vessel of the second reactor of the Fukushima plant.
The inspection manipulator will be delivered to Fukushima in May and the repair manipulator is being designed.
Kurion has played a role in the cleanup of the Fukushima site since 2011 when it was part of an international team of nuclear waste management companies to quickly deliver the first-ever external reactor cooling system, according to Kurion. The system remains in operation.
