The Richland School District is considering a couple of schedule options for next year when Marcus Whitman Elementary students will be displaced to the Sacajawea Elementary School campus so the new Marcus Whitman can be built.
School start and end times will need to be staggered because of traffic concerns and school bus availability, according to district officials. The city of Richland is requiring a 30-minute stagger time to decrease congestion, said Mark Panther, the school district’s executive director of support services.
Option 1 would have Sacajawea open from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Marcus Whitman from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and would not affect the schedules of middle and high schools.
Option 2 would have Sacajawea open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Marcus Whitman from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and middle and high schools from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Parents and staff are encouraged to attend a public input meeting 6:30 p.m. May 6 at Marcus Whitman. Those unable to attend the meeting can email comments to the Richland School Board at www.rsd.edu/board/contact-the-school-board.html.
