Kennewick’s newest middle school won’t open for more than a year but school district administrators have already named its principal.
Kevin Pierce, currently principal at Park Middle School, will spend the next year planning for the new school before it opens as what is currently Desert Hills Middle School during fall 2016.
The new middle school, which has yet to be named, will be paid for with part of an $89.5 million bond approved by voters in February. It will be built on Southridge Boulevard near Southridge High School and students will move into it during the first half of 2017.
Pierce has worked for the district for 23 years, starting as special education teacher at Desert Hills Middle School. He’s spent the past seven years as Park Middle School’s principal.
