Two Tri-City schools will try to be the best in state when they compete March 27-29 in the YMCA Mock Trial Competition.
Hundreds of students from 20 Washington schools — including Pasco’s Tri-Cities Prep and Richland High — will compete at the Thurston County Courthouse in Olympia.
The teams will take on the role of either prosecution or defense in a fictitious criminal trial inspired by the case of Edward Snowden, a computer professional who worked for the federal government and in June 2013 starting leaking classified information from the National Security Agency.
The top two teams advance to Sunday’s championship round, which will be presided over by Washington state Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu.
The 2014 champion, Seattle Prep High School, went on to win the national title in Wisconsin last May.
