An assistant principal at Kennewick High School has been named the school’s principal.
The Kennewick School District announced Tuesday that Ron King will replace Van Cummings, who will retire at the end of the school year, pending school board approval.
King began his work in education 24 years ago as a teacher at Desert Hills Middle School. He also worked as an English and history teacher, dean of students, coach, and athletic and activities director at Kennewick High before becoming assistant principal.
“I am greatly honored for the opportunity to be the principal of Kennewick High School. I’m proud to be a Lion and am even prouder to work with such dedicated teachers and staff,” King said.
King’s wife, Amy, teaches math at Desert Hills Middle School and they have a son in the eighth grade who will be entering Kennewick High next year.
Superintendent Dave Bond said he is excited to have Ron King as the new principal.
“Ron has a long history at Kennewick High as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal and knows the students and staff well,” Bond said. “We look forward to watching him build on the accomplishments that Kennewick High has made over the last decade.”
