Marketing students at Chiawana High School received $25,000 on Thursday to promote safe driving from insurer State Farm for the second straight year.
The Pasco students, all members of the school’s DECA marketing club, were surprised with the grant Thursday morning. The money was provided as part of State Farm’s Celebrate My Drive competition, where schools work to get as many students, families and community members to pledge to be safe drivers.
More than 3,500 schools participated in the competition, a release said, and Chiawana High placed in the top 50 in the large school category.
The top two schools in the competition won $100,000 each and concerts with The Band Perry.
Chiawana High’s money will go toward its ongoing safe driving efforts, such as the “Every 15 Minutes” drunken driving awareness campaign.
