A Kamiakin High School senior took the top spot in a statewide poetry competition, earning a trip to the national finals and cash prizes for her and her school.
Elizabeth Mo won the Poetry Out Loud competition with her recitations of June Jordan’s In Memoriam: Martin Luther King Jr., Matthew Arnold’s Dover Beach and Gerard Manley Hopkins’ Spring, a release said. About 23,000 students from 76 high schools vied for the award.
She will take an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to represent the state at the national level in late April. She also will receive a $200 stipend and Kamiakin High’s library will receive $500 to purchase poetry materials.
