Two Tri-City residents have been given seats on the Washington State Board of Education.
Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Jeff Estes of Richland to the board while local school boards elected Dan Plung of West Richland to represent eastern Washington to the board, a release said. Both will serve four-year terms beginning Jan. 13.
Estes is the director of the Office of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He’s responsible for helping the laboratory advance STEM education in the state.
Plung is a director of project services for a contractor on the Hanford site. He has taught at universities, including Washington State University Tri-Cities, and on Native American reservations. He is a board member for Columbia Industries, a non-profit that works with the disabled.
Never miss a local story.
Estes and Plung will join one other new member on the board next month who was also appointed by the governor.
