All 14 elementary schools in the Kennewick School District received a national award for improving student health.
The schools earned bronze awards as part of the HealthierUS School Challenge, a voluntary program started in 2004 to promote better nutrition and physical activity for students.
The awards are based on the nutritional quality of food served at school, nutrition education efforts and the level of physical education and activity students have during the school day.
Each school will receive $500 as part of the award.
In all, 42 schools across the state, the majority of them elementary schools, received bronze awards as part of the program.
