A West Richland woman was hurt after allegedly causing a chain-reaction wreck on busy Interstate 90 on Monday afternoon.
Michelle S. Bailey, 33, was headed east on the highway about 26 miles west of Cle Elum when she swerved to avoid traffic stopped on the highway, said the Washington State Patrol. Traffic had stopped because of an earlier collision in the left lane involving a Pasco driver.
In that collision, Parker E. Rieckelman, 30, of Pasco, was headed east when a driver from Kent hit his Ford Explorer from behind after he was stopping for traffic ahead.
A minute later, Bailey’s 2001 Ford Mustang rear-ended the cars that had slowed for the first accident. Six vehicles in all were involved.
Never miss a local story.
Bailey and Kaelee A. Pettit, 10, of Kent, who was a passenger in another car, were taken to Swedish Hospital in Seattle with unknown injuries.
Bailey was cited for failing to reduce speed for the conditions. The Kent driver, Sasha A. Link, 33, was cited for following too close.
