A repeat drunken driver was arrested and his passenger cited late Thursday night after they fled a crash just off Vista Way in Kennewick.
Cecilio Arrelano-Castillo, 29, was southbound on Dennis Street near Bruneau Avenue in a dark-colored pickup just after 11 p.m. when he failed to yield to an oncoming car while turning left, a Kennewick police release said. The resulting crash left both vehicles seriously damaged and with deployed airbags and left the 23-year-old female driver of the other vehicle with minor injuries to her shoulder.
Arrelano-Castillo and his passenger, Jesus Arrelano, 27, fled on foot to a nearby apartment on North Conway Street. Police detained them after seeing them banging on the door of the apartment for someone to let them in. Both men were intoxicated.
Arrelano-Castillo was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license and for failure to have an interlock device in his vehicle from a prior DUI arrest. Arrelano was cited for aiding and abetting a hit and run driver and released.
The victim in the other vehicle refused further medical attention.
