Police have arrested a Richland man who broke into a Kennewick church earlier Saturday.
A pastor, 10 couples and some children were participating in a marriage retreat at Quinault Baptist Church when Eric D. Redmond, 27, apparently broke in, said Kennewick police.
Redmond reportedly told the pastor the land was his and that they needed to leave. At that point, the pastor locked the door. Redmond then allegedly broke the window and the locked door using rocks and went inside, said Kennewick police Officer Tony Valdez.
The pastor and church members evacuated the church on Canal Drive next to the Tri-City Court Club. Kennewick and Richland police and Benton County sheriff’s deputies surrounded the church with guns drawn. They tried using a loudspeaker to get Redmond to come outside.
Police went inside and found and arrested Redmond about 3:30 p.m. He had been hiding in the attic. He is being held on suspicion of burglary.
