Spokane police don’t suspect law enforcement departments in Franklin County have leaked information to a former Pasco police officer accused of murder, officials said.
Media outlets in Spokane reported June 5 that a deputy prosecutor said in open court that members of the Pasco Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were suspected of giving Richard J. Aguirre information.
Aguirre, 51, is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly strangling a Spokane prostitute in 1986. He is also charged with third-degree rape and voyeurism in unrelated cases.
Officials from both departments spoke to Spokane police, who don’t have any information that Franklin County authorities leaked information, said Sheriff Jim Raymond and Pasco police Capt. Ken Roske.
KXLY-TV in Spokane reported Monday that the deputy prosecutor “misspoke” when making the allegations last week.
Calls to police and prosecutors in Spokane on Monday were not returned.
