A woman who apparently hanged herself in the Benton County jail over the weekend has died.
Cory L. Watson, 52, died Monday at Trios Health, where she spent two days after being found May 23 with a bed sheet tied around her neck, authorities said.
Watson was booked into the jail May 21 on a Spokane County warrant and indicated in a questionnaire she was not suicidal, the sheriff’s office said. The suicide attempt took place two days later during a one-hour free time period.
Watson went into her cell while her cellmates were in the common area, the sheriff’s office said. An inmate returned to the cell and found her without a pulse. Medical staff performed CPR, and Watson was taken to Trios.
A special unit of local police is investigating the death, which is the second reported suicide at the jail this year. Michael Shea, 22, reportedly hanged himself in February.
