A Grant County deputy sheriff crawled down a 50-foot rock embankment and used jumper cables to save an Othello man who fell into a reservoir Sunday.
The rescue happened at the east end of the O’Sullivan Dam after Victor S. Garza, 43, fell about 50 feet into waist-deep water, according to the sheriff’s office.
Garza and friends were fishing when they reportedly walked into an area off limits to the public.
The deputy, whose name was not released, used the cables to pull Garza to a safer spot and gave him a life vest, the sheriff’s office said.

Fire crews arrived and lowered a basket into the reservoir to get Garza out.
Garza was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake to be treated for hypothermia and minor injuries.
