A man from Germany and others are apparently out thousands of dollars after trying to buy vehicles from a fake Kennewick company.
The man called Kennewick police this week to report he sent $28,000 to the company for a Porsche advertised on a website, authorities said. The website uses the name of a local company, but it is not associated with the business.
Police have gotten at least three reports of people trying to buy vehicles on the fake site.
The company claims to be on West Grand Ronde Avenue and the website lists a fleet of vehicles supposedly for sale.
“Other than the fact that the website says (the company) is in Kennewick, there is nothing to tie it here,” said Mike Blatman with the Kennewick Police Department.
Police say it doesn’t appear the suspect or suspects live in the United States.
Police warn people to not buy anything off the website www.apollotrucksales.com.
