A teacher at Finley Middle School has been put on paid administrative leave after a 12-year-old student claimed she was hit with a small bell.
Witnesses in the classroom say the bell never hit the student, law enforcement officials said. The girl’s mother apparently reported the incident to the school district, saying the teacher threw the bell at her daughter.
“We are getting conflicting reports,” said Benton County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Kevin McCary.
The teacher uses the bell to get students’ attention.
It is normal protocol for a teacher to be placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing, school district officials said.
The sheriff’s office will send the case to prosecutors for review.
