Authorities want to warn the public about an increase in scam-related calls reported over the past weeks in Benton County.
There has been a “significant” increase in scam attempts and callers are attempting to defraud people using Green Dot cards, which are pre-paid.
Callers are asking people to put money on the cards for outstanding power bills, late taxes or to pay fines for failing to show up for jury duty.
Police say anyone receiving calls that demand an immediate payment should not send money.
Never miss a local story.
Anyone with questions about the scams can contact Kennewick police at 509-585-4208.
