A 30-year-old man spotted his friend’s stolen car in Prosser and reportedly opened fire on the driver during a chase.
Gregory G. Moon saw the Chevy Impala on Sunday night and started following it around Prosser, authorities said. The car was reported stolen earlier in the evening.
Moon and the driver of the Impala began ramming their vehicles into each other, authorities said. The chase headed west on Byron Road and eventually out of the city.
The driver of the Impala made a U-turn on Byron Road and drove past Moon, authorities said. Moon then got out of his car and fired five shots from a .40-caliber pistol at the back of the car.
Benton County deputies got a call a short time later that another vehicle was stolen from a property on Cascade Court in Prosser, authorities said. Police found the Impala, with at least three bullet holes, at the location.
Authorities found one bullet on a front-seat floor board. They said there was no blood in the car and no hospitals have reported treating a gunshot patient.
Authorities are still searching for the car thief.
Reports are expected to be forwarded to Benton County prosecutors to review for possible charges against Moon.
