Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department stumbled upon a cache of drugs Oct. 12 after investigating an abandoned one car rollover crash near Langford Road and Newport Drive north of Eltopia, the sheriff's department reported.
Deputies investigating the crash contacted the owner of the car, Pedro Lopez Ortiz, 30, who claimed he knew nothing about the crash as he was out of town, said Deputy Marcus Conner.
Ortiz gave authorities his address at the 4600 block of Russell Road where several ounces of methamphetamine, several pounds of marijuana and cocaine with a street value of about $17,000, along with a firearm at the residence were found with a search warrant, the sheriff’s department reported. Also seized were illegal social security cards and forged identification.
Arrested at the scene were Mesa residents Armando Lopez-Lopez and Areil Matute Funes, both 24, who were booked into the Franklin County jail for suspicion of possessing and distributing controlled substances and illegal possession of a firearm.
