An inmate of the Benton County jail has died after being found with a bed sheet tied around his neck Saturday.
Stephen L. Morgan, 26, was found unconscious with a bed sheet tied around his neck during an hourly check of inmates, according to information from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Correction officers and jail nurses provided medical help until medics arrived to take Morgan to Trios Medical Center, according to the sheriff’s office.
Morgan died at the hospital about six hours later.
He had been book into the jail Wednesday by the Kennewick Police Department.
He was being held on suspicion of failure to comply, possession of a dangerous weapon and obstructing a public servant, according to the jail roster.
He did not disclose any history of depression or mental illness when was he was booked into the jail.
He was being housed in a single-occupant cell at the time he was found.
