A 33-year-old Richland man was arrested Friday after fleeing from the scene of a hit-and-run at the Richland Walmart parking lot in the Queensgate area.
Paul Hess is accused of hitting a vehicle with his white Chevrolet Blazer at about 8:10 p.m.
He apparently then fled westbound on Interstate 182 to Interstate 82, according to police. Witnesses of the hit and run apparently followed him to the Benton City exit, where Hess turned and then drove back east bound on Kennedy Road, according to West Richland police. His SUV had a flat tire.
West Richland police attempted to stop the SUV on Kennedy Road. At that time, sparks were coming from the SUV’s tire.
Never miss a local story.
Richland police used a spike strip to deflate the SUV’s remaining front tire, according to police. The rims of the SUV eventually failed and the SUV came to a stop on Kennedy Road just before Keene Road.
Hess was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of a hit and run, driving under the influence and felony eluding.
