Two men died Sunday morning after their car ended up in a canal outside Toppenish, the Washington State Patrol reports.
At about 6:15 a.m., Anthony Godina, 25, of Toppenish was driving south in the 1300 block of North Meyers Road near the city limits.
He went off the roadway and then overcorrected, and the car landed on its roof in the canal next to the road, the state patrol report said.
Both Godina and one of his passengers, Jose S. Godina, 24, of Toppenish, were declared dead at the scene.
Never miss a local story.
Coroner Jack Hawkins said Sunday morning that he had not yet examined the bodies, but expected to have more information later in the day.
Another passenger, Anthony J. Goudy, 26, of Toppenish, was injured and taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. A nursing supervisor said he was in satisfactory condition as of noon Sunday.
Anthony Godina’s car, a 1997 Dodge Avenger two-door, was totaled.
The state patrol said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
