Police arrested a 60-year-old woman as she tried to sell more than $1,000 worth of audio books she had allegedly just stolen from a Kennewick book store.
Maria Elvia Esquivel came into Barnes and Noble at the Columbia Center Mall on Monday night with three of the store’s bags, police said.
She picked out 50 audio books, put them in the bags and walked out, police said. The store’s security system went off and Esquivel fled.
About an hour later, employees of a Hastings store in Richland called police as Esquivel was trying to sell the books, police said. Employees stalled Esquivel until police arrived and arrested her.

Esquivel, of Kennewick, was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of trafficking stolen property.
