A 15-year-old Kiona-Benton City High School student was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly composing a "hit list" of student and teacher names.
The list consisted of a “considerable amount” of names and may have been part of a game adopted from a movie, said Benton County sheriff’s Lt. Chuck Jones. Students found out about the list and told teachers Thursday.
Jones said he does not think the girl planned to harm anyone and no one at the school is in danger.
“Staff became aware of the supposed hit list involving staff and other students,” Jones said. “They are just finishing up the investigation. It appears there was no intention to follow through with it. It appears it was a pseudo game based on a movie involving a school hit list.”
The district issued a release saying there is no danger to students and the girl was expelled immediately.
“Careful thought-out steps have been taken to address the problem immediately and appropriate legal and disciplinary actions have been taken,” the release said.
Deputies are still at the school taking statements and investigating the incident, Jones said.
“We are investigating it as a crime," Jones said. "She was arrested and will be booked into the juvenile detention center.”
