A Umatilla prison inmate died unexpectedly Wednesday after he was taken to a hospital a day earlier.
Damion Banks, 31, was taken from Two Rivers Correction Institution to a hospital late Tuesday night, said Sherry Iles, prison spokeswoman. He died less than 24 hours later.
Prison officials did not release why Banks was taken to the hospital. The Oregon State Police are investigating his death.
Banks is the second inmate from the prison to die in less than two weeks.

On Jan. 27, Shane Morris, 39, was found unconscious in his cell and died at a hospital less than an hour later, Iles said.
OSP is also investigating Morris’ death.
Banks was serving time for rape, sex abuse and child sex convictions, Iles said. He had been in prison since 2010. His earliest release date was in March of 2015.
Morris had been in prison since 2005 for sex abuse and sodomy convictions, Iles said. His earliest release date was February of 2019.
The Oregon Department of Corrections is expected to release more information on the inmates’ deaths once OSP completes their investigation, Iles said.
