A section of the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla is on lockdown Tuesday after an inmate was stabbed.
The stabbing happened around 8:30 in a common area of the D unit in the prison’s West Complex, said Shari Hall, prison spokeswoman. All four units in the complex are on lockdown.
Staff members found a sharpened weapon they believe was used in the attack.
A 26-year-old inmate is being held in the facility’s segregation unit while officials investigate the incident, Hall said.
The prison houses more than 2,300 inmates in minimum, medium and maximum security custody.
