A Warden police officer was chasing a man accused of driving without a license Saturday when his patrol car collided with another motorist in an Othello intersection.
Officer Jose E. Navarro was not injured in the 12:58 p.m. collision, but the suspect he was chasing reportedly got away.
The other driver, Skylar M. Reichert, 19, was taken to Othello Community Hospital after her 1999 Ford Explorer was hit.
A news release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said the Othello woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.
It all started when Navarro stopped a car in Warden after noon. The suspect took off and Navarro chased the car for several miles into Othello, said sheriff’s spokesman Kyle Foreman.
A Washington State Patrol report said Navarro was northbound on 14th Avenue in his 2006 Ford Crown Victoria when it crashed into Reichert’s SUV.
Her Ford was traveling east on Main Street and had just entered the intersection at 14th when it was hit on the driver’s side door, the report said.
Police are continuing to look for the suspect who got away.
The state patrol is investigating the crash.
Both Navarro, 37 and of Sunnyside, and Reichert were wearing seat belts at the time.
