A 43-year-old man is suspected of selling a $5,000 industrial produce scale, stolen earlier this week in Kennewick, to a person for $300.
Rusty L. Bottoms was booked into the Benton County jail Friday night on suspicion of first-degree trafficking stolen property and first-degree possession of stolen property.
The scale was taken about 5:20 p.m. Oct. 27 from Baker Produce, 212 W. Railroad Ave.
The suspects couldn’t be identified, but their vehicle was captured on video surveillance and the theft was publicized on a media report earlier in the week, Kennewick police Detective Ron Salter said in a news release.
Never miss a local story.
On Thursday, a citizen who’d seen the story about the stolen scale called the Kennewick Police Department and reported buying an industrial scale. The citizen, who met with the department’s Criminal Apprehension Team detectives, said the scale was purchased for $300 from Bottoms, Salter said.
The scale was handed over to police for the investigation.
Detectives found a vehicle, which matched the one used in the theft, at 10:40 p.m. Friday outside the Sage N Sun Motel in Pasco. Bottoms was arrested after he was seen getting out of the vehicle, police said.
