Kennewick police are investigating threatening phone calls made to five businesses from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Monday.
The caller appeared to have used a Google chat service to place the calls with a computer, said Kennewick Cpl. Joe Jackson. The threats to the businesses were similar and none was acted on, he said.
The caller generally asked who he was talking to and then said a partner was nearby who would come into the business and harm them if they didn’t do as told, Jackson said.
The businesses that were called were Payless ShoeSource at 1102 N. Columbia Center Blvd., Washington Trust Bank on West Clearwater Avenue, US Bank on West First Avenue, the Micki McKinnon insurance office on West Kennewick Avenue and a Farmers Insurance office on West Grandridge Boulevard.
US Bank closed its doors for a time, letting customers in individually to do business.
The calls remain under investigation, said Jackson.
