A Columbia Basin College student has been arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a staff member at the school, officials said.
Mohammed Al-Shumoof, 22, was arrested Thursday at his Kennewick home on suspicion of indecent liberties, Pasco Police Capt. Jim Raymond said.
The incident happened between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Wednesday in the woman’s office on the Pasco campus, said Bill Saraceno, senior vice president of administration.
“Fortunately, she wasn’t hurt,” he said. “She was just shook up a little.”
Never miss a local story.
Few students and faculty were on campus at the time because fall classes do not begin until Sept. 23.
CBC President Rich Cummins said Al-Shumoof tried to make bodily contact with the woman. “He was being sexually forward,” Cummins said.
“I think the Pasco Police Department did a great job detecting this guy,” he said.
Al-Shumoof was arrested without incident, Raymond said. “They just said they took him into custody and dragged him off to jail,” he said.
