A 25-year-old man pleaded innocent to allegations he attacked two nurses and a Pasco police officer when he was taken to the emergency room for a cut to his head.
Aaron Malcolm Urbina of Pasco is scheduled for trial Sept. 11 on three counts of third-degree assault, all felonies.
Officers responded to an alley off Fifth Avenue at 10:48 p.m. July 17 for reports of a physical disturbance. Urbina was being held down by family members, who reported that he had assaulted other relatives by kicking and hitting them, court documents said.
He was placed in the back seat of a patrol car and taken to Lourdes Medical Center to be medically cleared before going to jail, documents said.
In the emergency room, Urbina allegedly yelled obscenities at the medical staff, so he was handcuffed to the hospital bed for his and the staff's safety.
Urbina bent the rails on his bed by kicking at them, court documents said. Two nurses ran to stop damage to other medical equipment and were able to avoid most of the kicks from Urbina, documents said.
Officer Jason Griffin was hit twice in the upper body while trying to restrain Urbina.
Medical staff told Griffin that the $5,000 hospital bed would have to be taken out of service while repairs are made, which could exceed $1,000, documents said.
Urbina remains jailed on the charges.
