A 64-year-old Irrigon, Ore., woman is in jail for recklessly killing her dependent mother, Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson said Monday.
He charged Ida Anna Powers, of 250 S.E. First St., Irrigon, with one count of first-degree manslaughter.
Nelson said Powers was caring for Anna Lyons, who developed a bed sore in the fall of 2012. Powers did nothing about the sore, which Nelson described as "terrible." Other members of the family intervened in October 2012, he said, when they saw Lyons’ condition.
The family took her to a local hospital and an aircraft ambulance flew her to Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, because of the severity of the bed sore. She died there Oct. 6, 2012, from the wound, Nelson said.
