Richland police are investigating an incident that left a 6-month-old girl with a skull fracture earlier this month.
The girl was brought to Kadlec Regional Medical Center on May 5, where doctors determined her skull was fractured, said Richland police Capt. Mike Cobb. She was then taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane before being released to her mother two days later.
Doctors determined the fracture was not an accident and the trauma indicated the child was assaulted, Cobb said. The child lived alone with her mother before the incident.
Police are not releasing details of the case, including where the incident took place.
Child Protective Services is “monitoring” the well being of the girl and is partnering with police in the investigation, Cobb said.
“Anytime a child is injured it is an outrageous crime,” Cobb said.
Detectives have a “working knowledge” of what happened to the girl and are continuing to investigate the incident, Cobb said. Police have not named any suspects.
